Is steam quality difficult for your boiler system to control?
Intelligent variable speed pumps from Grundfos can maintain constant water levels in your steam boiler, helping to improve your steam quality or maintain better steam control. You can opt for direct level control and eliminate both the feed valve and bypass line. This allows you to use smaller pumps, as there is no need to compensate for pressure loss across the feed valve. All this makes for a simplified, more cost-efficient boiler system.
With Grundfos iSOLUTIONS you can:
- Simplify the boiler system
- Achieve consistently accurate water levels without the use of a control valve
- Use smaller pumps
- Reduce capital costs (smaller pumps and fewer components)
- Achieve better steam quality and control
- Reduce operational costs
Expertly tailored to your needs
When you choose Grundfos iSOLUTIONS, our boilers and systems experts will work with you to tailor your feed pumps to the precise requirements of your boiler, feed water installation and your overall process. You get a single point of contact for the design, installation and maintenance of your system.
Is your boiler system too complex?
A boiler system designed with variable speed pumps and direct level control reduces the number of necessary components. Grundfos iSOLUTIONS make some components and piping redundant as the pump takes care of the controls instead of the valves. By removing flow-restricting valves, bypasses and mixing loops, you can reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs.
The boiler feed system with variable speed pumps and direct level control
- Water level is constant
- Water level is controlled directly by the variable speed pumps without the use of a feed valve.
- The pumps are controlled by the 4-20mA level sensor on the boiler. The water intake is continuously adjusted according to steam consumption.
- The pumps are running full speed at low level and decrease speed as the level increases. They will eventually stop at maximum level, so bypass is not necessary.
This system operates smoothly and is ideal for all types of steam boilers, both large and small. It minimises the risk of over-boiling and carry-over, keeping water levels constant and steam quality high.
Grundfos iSOLUTIONS pump technical features
Air-cooled top – An air-cooled chamber separates the seal chamber from the pumped liquid, generating an insulating effect. No external liquid is needed to cool down the shaft seal.
Low NPSH – With an oversized first impeller, low NPSH pumps can better handle poor inlet pressure and hot water.
Double shaft seal – Pumps with a double shaft seal arrangement can have a liquid filled chamber between the two shaft seals. They can be applied in hot water and vacuum installations.
MAGdrive – Magnets are used to drive the shaft and impellers, removing the physical connection between the pump and motor. This hermetically seals the pump from leaks.
Bearing flange – An additional flange with an oversized ball bearing absorbs axial forces in both directions. Ensures extended lifetime in tough inlet conditions.
