Heating

Capable of handling temperatures up to 240°C, Grundfos' centrifugal pumps are suitable for virtually all applications where heating is an essential part of the process.

Standard single-stage and multistage centrifugal pumps efficiently circulate liquids up to 120°C. Liquid temperatures above that, however, must be handled more carefully to avoid superheating of the shaft seal – and in turn unexpected and costly downtime. For this particular challenge, Grundfos offers robust pumps with air-cooled tops that along with special shaft seal materials easily handle even extremely hot water (180°C) and thermal oil (240°C).

All heating pumps can be fitted with a frequency converter, ensuring reliable temperature control in moulding, pasteurisation and similar delicate processes.

ChallengeSolution
In delicate processes it is essential to keep a constant temperature.By applying one of Grundfos' speed-controlled pumps the temperature can be held constant.
The response time to parameter regulations makes changes difficult and unreliable.Grundfos' E-solutions can be supplied with sensors that will take into account secondary influences and long transmission time to give you a precise response.
The viscosity of oil and other liquids used for heating responds to temperature changes.Grundfos offers pumps with oversize motors that efficiently cope with higher load.
Hot liquids may significantly reduce the life of mechanical shaft seals – or even completely ruin them.Grundfos offers advanced pump solutions fitted with an air-cooled top that will efficiently remove the heat from the shaft seal.
Energy consumption is important to your customer.Grundfos' high-efficient E-solutions significantly reduce energy consumption by automatically adjusting pump performance to the actual need. Naturally, the E-solutions meet international efficiency standards.Stock management can be difficult due to the global differences in voltages and frequencies.
Pumping hot water may cause problems with too low inlet pressure to the pump. As a result there is a risk of cavitation in the pump.Grundfos’ low NPSH solution solves that problem for you.

Important notes

  • In very high temperatures it is important to carefully consider the type of rubber used in the particular application. The same applies if oil is part of the process as some rubber types may be dissolved by oil.
  • If you are pumping different kinds of oil you have to be careful about choosing the motor size because the huge change in viscosity of the liquid at temperature changes.
  • Pumping hot water often causes problems with too low inlet pressure to the pump, which entails a risk of cavitation in the pump
